In Hawaii, it is very common to give a basket of snacks, homemade cookies, and other delicious goodies as a gift over the holidays. One of my favorite and most memorable (edible) holiday gift was a bag of deliciously savory, salty, addictive, flavored pretzels. These pretzels were the thick rope shaped crunchy pretzels, but they were coated in a powdery flavoring that almost resembled instant ramen seasoning. Hawaii-raised kids, if you know – you know. Now this was back when I was about 8 years old, so my exact taste memory is a little fuzzy, but I do remember how delicious these pretzels were. My brother and I ate the whole gift bag of pretzels during a 40 minute car ride. Let’s just say that we didn’t have any room left for the actual dinner. The thing about these holiday snack bags is that sometimes you forget which treats are from who. I remember asking many times who the pretzels were from so that I could ask for the recipe, but we couldn’t remember.
Years, and many day dreams about these pretzels later, I came across homemade ranch pretzels that a friend made. These ranch pretzels had the same savory, salty, addictive properties of my childhood mystery pretzel, and I started to crave these pretzels all over again! Trust me when I say that it’s dangerously easy to make. It’s dangerous only because it’s a very easy recipe that results in a very tasty snack. But beware! If you have a crazy salty-snack tooth like me, you won’t be able to stop eating these.
Crunchy Ranch Pretzel Chips
Ingredients:
- 1 (7.2 oz) bag of Pretzel Crisps
- ¾ of a packet of Ranch dip seasoning
- 1 stick of butter
- A sprinkle of sugar
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
- Empty bag of Pretzel Crisps into a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, microwave the butter until fully melted. You can also do this on the stove.
- When the butter is melted, add a sprinkle of sugar to the mix.
- Pour melted butter over pretzel crisps evenly, then sprinkle on the Ranch seasoning mix. I like to alternate between pouring the butter, sprinkling seasoning, then tossing (to evenly distribute the seasoning).
- Empty seasoned Pretzel Crisps onto a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, stirring to prevent burning, then bake for another 15 minutes.
- Once cooled, enjoy! Or place into an airtight container for up to 2 weeks – if they even last that long.
See? How easy was that?! I made this as some gifts over the holidays and it was such a hit! I think this will be my holiday staple from now on. It’s an easy snack to make that anyone can enjoy. I prefer the Pretzel Crisps because regular pretzels aren’t my favorite. Plus, I prefer eating chips instead. Be a little weary about giving these crisps to your grandma or grandpa, they do get really crunchy in the baking process.
If you give these a try, let me know how you liked them! I imagine these would be great with a bowl of guacamole.. But let’s not get too crazy here. Until next time…
