Hi Friends! What better way to content batch than to go on a vacation? My next few posts will be a collection of the things that we did on our trip to Portland and Seattle, and reviews of the places we stayed and things we did. Let me just say, that we ate A LOT of good food, did very fun touristy things, and stayed at great hotels. I can’t wait to share with you all the things we experienced.
Hotel Ambiance and Room:
Right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown Portland is a beautiful boutique hotel called Hotel Lucia. Hotel Lucia is creatively decorated with colorful and tasteful artwork in the hotel lobby and in their rooms. It’s not your normal modern-decorated hotel, but it’s very artistic. Next to their hotel’s restaurant, Pacific Crust Pizza, is an art piece that consists of vintage film cameras. The deluxe room that we stayed in was a bit smaller than I’m used to for hotel rooms at 156 sq. ft. but it had a closet, two night stands, a desk with a desk chair, lounge chair and coffee table, and a king sized bed. The bathroom was a bit small too, but that didn’t bother us too much. Looking back at it now, maybe it was better that our room was on the smaller side. When I travel and open my suitcase, I make a huge mess! But with this smaller room, my mess was contained to just my suitcase (haha!).
Location:
The location of the hotel is very conveniently located within walking distance of shopping in Pioneer Square, great coffee shops, food carts, local restaurants, and if you’re into it – the city’s Chinatown. I do want to be transparent that this is a city’s downtown, and there are a lot of homeless/houseless individuals walking the street. Some seemed to be under the influence of drugs, and some aren’t afraid to approach you to ask for money or for food. No matter how you feel about it, it’s always a good idea to walk with someone and/or don’t walk around too much at night. Aside from that, we walked from our hotel to go shopping and grab food and coffee. Most of what we wanted to do in Portland was conveniently within walking distance from the hotel, if not a quick Uber ride away.
Customer Service Experience:
Back to the hotel, I’d HIGHLY recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in downtown Portland just because of the stellar customer service that we were given. Every individual who helped us was polite, helpful, accommodating, and very friendly. Matt, the hotel’s manager, was very helpful when we were running late to our check-out time and allowed us to check out an hour later. ALSO! They give all their guests (of drinking age) a choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage from local companies, daily! I thought that was very cool of them to do. I read that pre-COVID they’d do a beer happy hour daily and featured local brews. How cool!!
They also have a text service that allows guests to text the front desk/staff with any questions or requests, which was very convenient. They weren’t doing room service or cleaning our room during our stay because of COVID, but if we needed new towels or our trash taken out they were quick to help us when we texted. I personally don’t like when housekeeping comes in to my room during our stay so this new procedure worked in my favor.
We stayed at Hotel Lucia for 3 nights before driving up to Seattle. Our overall experience at Hotel Lucia was great. The location was very convenient for walking to shops and grabbing a bite or some drinks, which I enjoyed. Even though we had to walk a little quicker in some areas of downtown, I think it was all part of exploring and experiencing downtown Portland. I would highly recommend Hotel Lucia for the convenience of their very helpful and friendly staff! I feel like this hotel is perfect for tourists to the area like myself, or those looking for a nice staycation/date night in the area. I’m new to the boutique hotel scene, but if you have any recommendations I’d love to hear them! And maybe I’ll find a new location to travel to. Until next time…
