One of my top priorities I had when staying in Seattle was somewhere central to the touristy locations I wanted to go to. After our amazing stay at Hotel Lucia in Portland, I was excited to try another new hotel. Thankfully, I came upon The Sound, a Hilton Collection Hotel located in Downtown Seattle in a Google search. I was completely sold by the photos on their website and to be honest, the all-black bathrooms tipped us over to staying there. The location was a 5 minute walk from local eateries, coffee shops, and a 10-15 minute walk to Pike’s Place Market. The convenience of everything being located within walking distance was the cherry on top.
Valet and the check-in process
At the 24 hour mark before our check-in time, I received an email that asked if we wanted a remote check-in. I decided to not opt for that because I had a few questions about the room and the valet situation. Unfortunately, at these downtown hotels they seem to use a parking lot that is a couple blocks from the actual hotel so valet service is necessary unless you want to street park and wake up before tow-times. The valet service cost $55/day, but when hearing about the crime that happens at night in the Belltown area it was a safer choice than finding parking ourselves.
The check-in process was very smooth and we were greeted with excellent customer service. February was Seattle’s Museum Month, and our hotel gave us a 50% off pass for all the local museums! What a steal. This hotel also had a COVID safety policy where they don’t clean your room every day unless requested. The housekeeping will come in on the third night to change any sheets and refresh towels. Again, I didn’t mind and preferred this new procedure because I usually leave the “do not disturb” sign on the door during the whole stay.
Hotel Amenities
At check-in, the front desk receptionist gave us the low-down of their café, lobby restaurant called Currant Bistro. I really wish this place was open for their happy hour/dinner because their old menu (pre-covid) looked amazing! She also shared about their additional amenities like their fitness center, business lounge, and patio on the 7th floor (absolutely beautiful, by the way). This hotel has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Their lobby has a snackbar that also sells bottles of wine and local beers and ciders that you can charge to your room. Also, if you happened to forget something there’s a CVS across the street.
The Sound also has a very convenient texting system where I could text the front desk with any questions I had, or requests. The person I was texting was a front desk receptionist, and they were always quick to respond and help me out. I really enjoy this feature because they were able to give me some great recommendations of nearby eateries and things to do!
Room review
Our room was very chic and modern. There was a flat-screen TV mounted to the wall, a seating area with a lounge couch and lamp, and even a mini refrigerator and keurig. There was also a closet with an ironing board, iron, and a safe available for use. I wish I had taken pictures to share, but you know how I am unpacking – I make “house” quick! My suitcase seemed to explode in the 5 minutes I spent looking for my dinner outfit. Our all-black bathroom was decorated with black tiles, perfect lighting, black marble in the walk-in shower, and a white marble countertop. I definitely took some pictures for future bathroom inspiration.
Outdoor terrace lounge
The patio on the 7th floor deserves its own paragraph! There are lounge style seats indoors with lots of charging ports in case you need to get work done. It looks out to the Seattle Space Needle and catches a beautiful sunset. There are large patio chairs outside and a fire-pit that’ll warm you up on chilly days and evenings. I wanted to turn it on, and chill for a bit to admire the view, but we were only going to be there for a little bit. The patio closes at 10:00pm, and reopens the next morning at 8:00am. It would be a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine at night before going up to your room. It looked like there was a lounge bar on that level, but it was probably closed due to low business during COVID times.
The verdict:
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at The Sound Hotel in Seattle Belltown. We kept talking about how chic everything was decorated, while still staying cozy and not feeling uptight. It was perfect in my opinion. A balance of modern, chic, and comfortable. Their customer service is top notch, and definitely lives up to the Hilton name. Location is PERFECTLY central to a shopping mall, great eateries, coffee shops, bakeries, and Pike’s Place Market. Everything you need is within a 5-10 minute walk.
The only downside is the crime that happens at night, and the drug and homeless problem in Downtown Seattle. I’d suggest you don’t walk around at night, and pay for the Uber/Lyft ride to places. It is always important to stay vigilant of your surroundings and make smart and safe choices when in an unfamiliar place. Other than that, a perfect hotel! I love staying at hotels, even if it’s at home. I wonder where I should go next?
Until next time…
