Like many, I am on the hunt for my ‘holy grail’ mascara. I’ve tried many mascaras throughout my time with makeup, and I wanted to see what else was out there. I typically buy the shade in black, and like the bristle brushes over the plastic ones. My lashes are already pretty long, so what I am just looking for is volume and curl. My current favorite is It Cosmestic’s Superhero mascara, and it is about $29. The brush packs on the right amount of mascara for volume while lengthening my lashes without them looking like clumpy insect legs. With the Superhero mascara, I do not need to curl my lashes, and one to two coats is all I need. What I don’t like about this mascara is that it’ll flake off sometimes and the flakes will fall into my eye giving me the uncomfortable feeling like I have a lash in my eye. We’ll see how this trial goes, but hopefully I am able to find either a drugstore dupe, or a mascara I like even more!
My quest for my new favorite mascara starts with L’Oreal’s Voluminous Lash Paradise at the wonderful price of $8 to $10. With a price like that, I didn’t hesitant to give it a try. I’ve tried this Lash Paradise mascara before, but in the waterproof formula, and oh man was that waterproof. I’d need to soak my lashes in the makeup remover solution by soaking a cotton pad then pressing them on my eyes to let the solution saturate my lashes. Then, I had to let it sit for about a minute before I could safely take off the mascara. The first time I tried to rub it off in the shower my lashes clumped together and it was on the verge of ripping out. However, I did like the brush and formula before the removal fiasco. This time I went for their regular formula (not waterproof) and I was pleased. The brush was good to coat each lash with mascara, and my lashes curled a little without having to manually curl them beforehand. I needed about two to three coats in order for it to look how I want it to. But, by 12:00pm the curls are gone and my lashes are practically straight again. One thing I noticed about both the waterproof and regular formula is that it does flake throughout the day. I’d rate this mascara a 6.5/10.
L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise in Black, $9
The Bite Beauty mascara was not my first grab in my last trip to Sephora. After I explained that I usually use the Superhero mascara, the girl who helped me recommended this mascara saying that many have been coming in to get it in the last week. I was quickly sold, and I’m glad I got to get in and out of the store quickly with a new mascara to try. This Bite Beauty Upswing Full-Volume mascara is cruelty free, vegan, gluten free, and falls under the “clean beauty” category. All those factors are a big plus in my book. At $28, it is very close in price to my original mascara favorite. The brush itself has bristles and is curved to catch the wispies on the outer corner of your eye, and smaller at the tip for the inner corner of your eye. It took me a while to get used to the brush shape, and honestly I’m still getting used to it. I still get product on my eyelid when I rush in the mornings. A feature about this bottle is the “click” you feel when the want is tightened all the way. That small feature, along with the weight of the bottle are nice touches in my opinion. With this mascara, it takes me about two to three coats in order to get it to where I want it to be, and it holds my lash curl. The brush doesn’t coat my lashes as thick as the Superhero and Lash Paradise mascaras do, but the good trade-off is that this formula doesn’t flake. I’d rate Bite Beauty’s Upswing mascara an 8/10.

On their own, these mascaras were an okay start to my mascara trials. I like the brush from the Lash Paradise mascara, but I really like that the Upswing mascara is cruelty free and doesn’t flake. I’ll use these until I use it all, or until the 2-3 month expiration comes around. Until then, I’d love to hear what mascaras you all use! ‘Till next time…
