Hey everyone, happy blogmas! I’ve been trying to find out ways to get on a regular posting schedule to keep up with this blog. I know, I say that in almost every blog post. This time, I hope this will stick. It’s my first time participating in a challenge like blogmas and to no surprise, I missed December 1st. In the final stretch of 2021, I plan on reflecting on my past year while preparing for 2022! I also LOVE Christmas, so I’m hoping that I get to do Christmassy things amongst the madness of work, blogmas, dance company stuff, and content creating. Oh, and I’m getting all four wisdom teeth out in a week. Let’s end this year off with a bang, am I right?!
My new favorite podcast, Girls Gotta Eat introduces their episodes with a catch up on their lives and also recommendations that they have for their listeners. I genuinely love hearing their recommendations and have found that we share some of the same interests. I’m thinking that this segment will be a weekly post, going over what I found in the previous week to share with you all. Hopefully these recommendations will give you a little bit of insight to who I am and what I enjoy. The culmination of ideas will come from recipes, to new habits, books (hopefully), ideas, shows, Youtube channels, local restaurants, latest buys, Instagram accounts, and whatever else I can recommend. Let’s get to this week’s recs!
- Of course, I have to pay homage to the Girls Gotta Eat podcast with Rayna Greenberg and Ashley Hesseltine. These are not only two hilarious best friends, they are women who talk about relationships, dating, sex, and real-life sh*t for a living. They have amazing guests who talk about dating, lifestyle, and even serious topics like choosing to not have children, sobriety, ending friendships. I listen to their podcast (through my Airpods) at work, in the car, while I’m cooking, and anywhere that I need to listen to something. I enjoy hearing their insight on things and it’s like being in a conversation with the older sister I’ve always wanted. The episodes are lengthier than other podcasts, but they’re always worth the extra minutes. I catch myself laughing out loud and saying things like “can’t recommend it enough!” or telling people that they’re “on notice”. Am I a true snackhead yet?
- Taking a break!! Sometimes I forget to take my own advice and I work myself into the ground. Heck, I even made a whole blog post about the importance of taking a break. I’m so glad that I work in an environment that is pro-vacation time. My supervisors are willing to give me the time off and trust that I will pick up right where I left off when I return. I took a long weekend after Veteran’s Day and requested the day off on Friday. To be honest, I did do some work on those days, but it was so nice to get to do things that I’ve been putting off. I got to fit in FIVE workouts that week, try Starbucks’ holiday drinks, get my safety check (finally, am I right?), and just get some much needed R&R. Over the last two months I’ve been putting a lot of time and effort in a big fundraising project for work and the last couple of weeks have been extremely stressful to balance that AND my new promotion. So basically I’m working two positions while training to the new one. I often forget that I can’t give 100% effort equally. I need to give myself grace and use rest and relaxation to recenter myself and kick ass when I get back into the groove of things.
- I just started a new show that I learned about from the Girls Gotta Eat podcast, and it’s The Bold Type! In one week I finished the first season and I’m now on the fourth season. The Bold Type is a Freeform show about three best friends, Jane, Sutton, and Kat, who are navigating through their career in media (magazine writing, fashion, social media). They work at a magazine title called “Scarlet” and in between their daily gossip sessions in the fashion closet, they show the highs and lows of being a 25 year old in New York City. I really enjoy the drama from the dating, but what really drew me in to the show was the best friend-ships between the girls. I think it’s such a feel-good show that embraces the importance of having a support crew to lean on. I also enjoy that Scarlet’s Editor in Chief, Jacqueline is a good role model for these women. Jacqueline’s character is probably my favorite because she is successful, a powerful woman figure, and is also supportive of these girls’ growth in their mid-twenties. The show also tackles important topics in almost every episode like racial identity, sexuality, immigration, gender, and more. I can’t wait to watch more and see what other crazy adventures these three girls go on.
And there is my short list of recommendations for the start of blogmas! I hope that I can make this a weekly thing – probably on Mondays! Let’s see how blogmas turns out. I’m excited to do this! Hopefully this track will lead me into the new year with good blogging habits.
