Are you looking for a delicious dish to bring to your next potluck? I stumbled upon a brussel sprouts recipe by The Foodie Eats, and I absolutely love it! It’s quick, easy to put together, and so delicious. I went through 23 years of my life believing that brussel sprouts couldn’t be good. The first time I had brussel sprouts, they were bitter and mushy and I did not like the flavor. My best friend is the one who influenced me to try brussel sprouts last year. I was hesitant, but she insisted that roasting brussel sprouts was the best way to enjoy them.
So Thanksgiving rolled around and I wanted to try make a new dish to contribute to the table. I scrolled through Pinterest for an interesting-sounding recipe for roasted brussel sprouts. Then, I found The Foodie Eats‘s recipe for their Air Fryer Maple Bacon Brussels Sprouts and I tried it out. It is SO good! Of course there are brownie points in my mind for it being an air fryer recipe. I love that darn kitchen appliance, and I’m sure you do too.
The recipe calls for brussel sprouts, bacon, and a mixture of olive oil, maple syrup, salt, pepper, and a splash of apple cider vinegar. After mixing together the marinade, you pour it over your halved brussel sprouts and raw bacon pieces, mix it all together, and throw it in the air fryer for 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees. At my first attempt at this recipe I wanted the bacon to get crispy so I left it in for an extra 4-5 minutes and it was great. Be warned, the outer leaves of the brussel sprouts will brown a lot and look almost burnt – but that’s the best part! When there are extra crispy leaves left on the baking sheet, I’ll pick them off to snack on. For some reason, when roasting brussel sprouts there is no bitterness and you’re left with a delectable morsel of savory sweet bites.
I made this for my family members who also are not huge brussel sprout fans, and it was a hit! Looking back at it, that was pretty bold of me to make this dish for Thanksgiving dinner, but thankfully this recipe is fool-proof. Here are my tweaks to the original recipe.
Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Bacon
1 bag/bunch/bundle of brussel sprouts, raw
4 slices of bacon, sliced in small pieces
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 Tbs. vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar)
Salt (to taste)
Pepper (to taste)
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
Wash and cut brussel sprouts in half. Cut bacon and mix with brussel sprouts. In a separate bowl, combine olive oil, maple syrup, vinegar, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk together well. Pour liquid mixture over the brussel sprouts and bacon, and incorporate so everything is covered. Put in air fryer and fry at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes. If baking, bake on a prepared baking sheet at 400 degrees for 18-20 minutes. When you bring the brussel sprouts out of the air fryer or oven, lightly sprinkle more salt and pepper over them. Allow to cool slightly and enjoy!
I promise you, this recipe is a great addition to your next dinner or potluck! Plus, if you omit the bacon, it becomes a vegetarian or even vegan dish. It seems like brussel sprouts have been the latest craze in the foodie world, and these are a great way to enjoy them. Let me know if you try this recipe and enjoy it! Until next time…
