Alright, it’s my second of blogmas and I’m already behind! We just finished our Christmas Concert this weekend (for my second job as a dance teacher), and now I’ll have more time to commit to blogging regularly. How is everyone’s December so far? Have you put up your Christmas decorations yet? Or drank peppermint hot cocoa? I’ve already put up some decorations in our living room, and I bought more to put up this weekend. I love Christmas so much!
Anyway, on Tuesday my boyfriend and I went on a spontaneous date night to Signature Prime Steak and Seafood at the Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu. I was in the middle of my after-work nap on Tuesday when I received a call to make sure I was ready for dinner by 7:30pm. In a daze, I agreed and got up for a quick workout before dinner. After my workout I got ready, put on my new teal satin midi dress from Nasty Gal, and applied my go-to natural glam makeup. It’s been a while since we went out to a nice dinner like this! I think the last time was our anniversary in July.
We got to the restaurant at 7:30pm, and there was a carpet in the lobby of the hotel with a special elevator to the restaurant. The doors opened on the 36th floor to a decorated restaurant lobby with live piano music playing. The host checked our vaccination cards, ID’s, and we were escorted to our table that overlooked the Ala Moana/Waikiki area. The ambiance was very nice! I’m a sucker for live music, and unlike other steakhouses in Hawaii, this one was lit a little brighter than the rest (which I enjoyed). Why are steakhouses always so dark!? I’m trying to see the food I’m eating!
We were greeted by our wonderful server and she quickly was able to bring our choices of wine to the table. I started off with a glass of Selbach Oster Riesling Kabinett, which was delightfully fruity and sweet with a dry finish. My boyfriend had a glass of Domaine de Triennes Rosé, which was also a dry choice. Both paired deliciously with our scallop appetizer. The scallops were nice and tender with a slight crust on the outside. It was served with a barbeque honey mustard sauce on the side, and topped with a light sprinkle of furikake. It was delicious! We also got their ahi katsu, which was a delightful surprise to me! I usually don’t like seared fish, I’d prefer if it was completely raw, or cooked through. However, this one with the fried panko crust was SO GOOD! The sashimi-grade ahi katsu was served with a teriyaki sauce and wasabi aioli on the side. It’s the only seared ahi I found that I enjoyed.
Then, we had our main dish of an American Wagyu ribeye steak. At $120, this was a steal for a bone-in American wagyu cut. Our server kindly offered to have the steak cut for us, and we couldn’t wait for the sizzling ceramic plate to arrive. Along with the steak we ordered a lobster potato gratin, and we were gifted a side of truffle mashed potatoes. The steak was delectable and the wagyu marbling throughout the ribeye really shone through. There was a “textbook” steak crust that provided another layer of flavor to the experience of every bite. The sides were equally delightful. The lobster potato gratin had a lot of lobster meat, which added a nice richness to the overall dish. Our truffle mashed potatoes were silky smooth and had a pleasant truffle essence in every bite. We were in steakhouse heaven.
Lobster potato gratin (upper left), truffle mashed potatoes, and our American Wagyu ribeye Bone-In American Wagyu ribeye cooked medium rare. Delicious!
With our steak we ordered another glass of wine. This time I ordered a glass of Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese (amazingly light red, btw.), and he ordered a glass of the Belle Gloss Las Alturas Pinot Noir which was a flavorful and reliable go-to.
After our mammoth of a main course, our server surprised us with a lilikoi crème brulee with fresh whipped cream and berries. We were so stuffed from our main dish, but who can say no to crème brulee?! It’s easily my favorite dessert, and I always order it if I see it on the menu. It was not too sweet because of the tangy lilikoi flavor, and creamy. I wish the sugar was caramelized a little bit more (I like it close to burnt), but it was still delicious and satisfying to crack.
Our experience at Signature Prime Seafood and Steak was nothing short of amazing. We had a great time getting to enjoy each other’s company over live music and great food. It’s been a while since we had a fancy date night, and I’m glad we did it before the craziness of the holidays. This night was a lesson to me that we should do more spontaneous date nights! It was so much fun, and a nice step away from the rush of daily life. Until next time…
