Hey Everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. We had a State ‘holiday’ on Friday, so I got a three day weekend! I definitely needed the extra day, even if it was just another day of relaxing. On Friday we went to our favorite breakfast spot, Sweet E’s Cafe. I hardly get to go out for breakfast anymore because of work and sleeping in on weekends, so this was a special treat for me. Located in Kapahulu, a community that borders Waikiki, Sweet E’s is a yummy and convenient place to grab a bite to eat. Awarded year after year for “Best Breakfast”, you should definitely stop by to find out why.
Walking in to the restaurant, we were welcomed in by the friendly staff with tissues by the front door to open the door with, and temperature checks before we walked in. We were seated inside at tables 6 feet apart from each other. The staff always wore masks, and the patrons all wore masks as they walked in as well. It’s always a good feeling to support a local business that is doing what they can to keep their customers safe.
Now let’s talk about the yummy food! Sweet E’s is one of those places where everything tastes delicious. Their omelets, pancakes, waffles, french toast, eggs benedicts – just everything is so good. I’ve never met anyone who had anything bad to say about Sweet E’s, nor anyone who has ever turned down Sweet E’s. I had their blueberry cream cheese stuffed french toast, and my boyfriend had the “Extreme Mess” with white bread toast, and we shared a side order of Corned Beef hash.
My stuffed french toast was perfectly crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. You’d expect a cream cheese filling to be heavy and overly sweet, but not this one! The filling is light and the fresh blueberries add a nice bit of freshness to the dish. I personally don’t think the french toast needs any syrup, it’s perfect the way it is. They also have plain french toast and a banana stuffed french toast. The ‘Extreme Mess’ is a breakfast scramble with three eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, ham, peppers, scallions, onions, all topped with melty cheddar cheese. I always sneak a bite or two from my boyfriend’s plate when he orders that. The Corned Beef hash that we ordered (not pictured) is house-made corned beef mixed with crispy hash brown potatoes. We like to order that extra crispy, and it is the perfect balance when I order something sweet.
Other than what we ordered, you can order anything off of the menu and not be disappointed. At all their dishes at less than $15.00, there’s no hurt in trying something new every time. I have never had anything here that I didn’t like. I can taste that all the dishes have soul cooked into each bite. The friendly staff adds to the “family feel” of the restaurant, and makes you feel welcome. Overall, eating at Sweet E’s Cafe is an experience in itself. If you’re ever in the area, go and check them out! You won’t regret it.
